Welcome to Part Two of the Behind the Scene Execs Blog Series: Common Mistakes Business Owners Make.
Last week, we tackled the common mistake of Hiring Employees too Soon. This week, we’re branching out to the worldwide web, encouraging small business owners to go social and use a blog to boost business!
Why Not Blog?
Blogging has become an important component in many successful businesses. Word of mouth on the street is one thing, but word of mouth on the internet can catapult your company to a whole new level. According to Forbes.com, a noteworthy 85% of businesses rated their company blog as “useful,” “important” or “critical.” Many business owners have good intentions of launching a company blog, but it is often put on the back burner for various reasons. Time constraints and doubt that the blog will serve its purpose hold business owners back from taking that leap. But there are many reasons to go for it!
Why Start Now?
Blogs serve as dialogue between companies and their potential and current clients. Professional websites typically list available services on their home pages, but a blog allows a business owner to get more specific about products and services offered. Blog entries also give the reader a glimpse into the culture of a business. This can set you apart from the competition and ultimately make visitors to your website choose you over the other guys.
In addition to more in-depth content, blogs give customers and clients a reason to come back. Although your home page may not be ever-changing, when you add new content to your website via your blog, one-time visitors become returning readers. When you become a “favorite” on laptops and desktops everywhere, the value of your blog becomes priceless.
Getting the Word Out
One of the amazing things about an interesting, informative blog is that it can take the guesswork out of keeping up with various social media platforms. Posting that first blog entry on your website gives your clientele a reason to check it out; but they need to know it’s there! Posting new blog entries on your Facebook and Twitter pages, along with other platforms you are using in your business, will draw new traffic. And once you’re on a roll, share with your audience what days you will be posting new entries each week. This approach may just create a conversation, and before you know it, your business will be reaching more people than you ever imagined!
